Yantra started its journey on January 2015 with an initiative by the Belgium based NGO Dwengo , supported by Bhumi. In the kickoff phase, 30 kids from Bhumi centers were selected and classes were organised by Dwengo at Ramakrishna mission home in Mylapore. Dwengo, with the help of trained Bhumi volunteers started its journey of inculcating robotics knowledge amongst kids. Concepts were taught using the STEM(Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) methodology which stimulated kids’ interests even more.

At the end of 3 weekend sessions, kids exhibited the robots they made. It was a great success because these kids went on to win prizes for their robots at a state level science exhibition held at Agni engineering college (Chennai) as well. With that success, Dwengo and  Bhumi aspired to see many more kids benefitted from this STEM initiative which then became Yantra. Thus Bhumi’s Yantra project started  under the guidance of LES project on July 2015.

With a handful of volunteers Yantra started its pilot center at Maduravoyal Government School (Chennai) which garnered attention with kids winning the innovative project award for their embedded project displayed at HCL Shollinganallur. Yantra then started to scale up its operations with 2 more centers and  workshops with an increased volunteer count.

By the end of the academic year (July 2015 – April 2016), 173 underprivileged kids had made robots on their own. Yantra became a separate project from the current academic year 2016 – 2017 and till date 4 centers have been started with 25 kids each  and a total of 72 volunteers.  Yantra has turned out to be one of the fastest growing Ignite projects at Bhumi and is on its way to attaining greater heights, across India.
